Some of you may have missed this news due to all the media attention focused on the Covid pandemic and elections. In November of 2020, a study was published in the Journal of Aging that announced findings from a Hyperbaric oxygen study that lengthened telomeres by more than twenty percent and decreased immunosenescence in isolated blood cells.
To achieve these telomere elongation benefits, patients underwent Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) with pure oxygen five days a week for three consecutive months.
You may or may not remember, but telomeres are tiny regions that protect your chromosomes from damage. They are kind of like the plastic caps on your shoelaces that prevent them from fraying. But each time a cell divides, some of the telomere is lost. When there is no more telomere structure, the cell dies.
Studies now show you can slow this shortening through having a healthy diet and weight, regular exercise, smoking cessation, reduced stress, regular sleep, and adding certain supplements. But none of these things were able to reverse the loss of length like HBOT.
We are excited about all the new studies coming out on HBOT showing the benefits with strokes, traumatic brain injuries, age related cognitive decline, Alzheimer’s disease, and heart failure.
We just recently learned about a new study in the works combining HBOT with other techniques with even better results, averaging forty percent in geriatrics. Combine this with the fact that HBOT has now been proven to increase stem cell proliferation, and we have a true modality for slowing and even reversing the aging process to some degree.
For those interested or know someone who could benefit, we have developed a protocol here at the Doctor’s Clinic Hyperbaric Oxygen Center based on all the studies to ensure the best possible quality of life for our patients.
